| For our new patients a comprehensive hearing evaluation is necessary in order to decide what course of action is necessary. Our evaluation will determine if a medical evaluation or hearing aids are appropriate. A comprehensive hearing evaluation includes:
Video Otoscopy: A visual examination of the ear canal and eardrum to determine if there is an accumulation of wax, an infection in the ear canal, or other visible conditions in the ear that may require medical intervention.
Immittance: Measurement of the eardrum and middle ear to rule out possible conditions which may be treatable.
Pure Tone Testing: Evaluation of your perception of tones of various pitches.
Speech Evaluation: Testing of your capacity to understand speech.
Consultation: If hearing amplification is an option, you will be part of the decision making as to the type of hearing instrument you may need. All of your questions will be answered before you make any decisions. If the specialist identifies a medical concern, they will advise you of their findings and will work with you to set an appointment with a physician of your choice and/or arrange a referral. We will send a formal report of the evaluation to your doctor.
